Question: Multiple Response Template – Partial Scoring

Toggle
Hi Team,

I have a requirement for a Multiple Response question where there are 4 correct options, and each correct option should be worth 1 point, for a total of 4 points. The expected scoring behavior is:
  • Select 1 correct option → 1 point
  • Select 2 correct options → 2 points
  • Select 3 correct options → 3 points
  • Select all 4 correct options → 4 points
  • Selecting an incorrect option should not award points.
Currently, the Multiple Response template appears to support points only at the correct/incorrect feedback level, rather than assigning points individually to each correct option. Is there a way to configure the template to support partial scoring based on the number of correct options selected? If so, could you please provide guidance on how this can be configured?

Hi Naveen,
Good question! I would do the same thing as we did for the drop downs - building your own logic on top of the template. Here's a video - https://share.smartbuilder.com/public/support/multiple_response_partial_scoring.mp4

As always, I encourage people looking to build advanced content without using the templates. In the short term it can save time, but it restricts your capabilities. Some day your needs will outgrow the templates' capacity, and you'll have to build the content from scratch. And sometimes those requests come at the last minute from your stakeholders, and you'll find yourself scrambling to rebuild everything before a major deadline.
