Hi Smartbuilder Community,

It took some time, but I finally had time to make an update on the game again. It is a big change, mainly on switching to lists and making a start on finding the best move for the computer. Here are some of my findings and remarks
- I found a way to make a list quickly using the split text block
- Everything is now made with the 'procedure' object as Navdeep advised and showed in this tutorial. This gives a cleaner overview and is perfect for small games.
- We use lists now instead of the inputtext. Mainly because it is easier to check the lenght of the lists.
- I had trouble with the 'is thing in list' block, so I used the 'is everything in list'. But still not sure what I did wrong. Maybe because a list can not be a 'thing'?
- I also had trouble transfering the only number on a list to another. That's why I used the 'pick random' on lists of 1 item long. I don't understand why I couldn't use the 'copy list' function or just connect the two variables directly to eachother.
- Is it possible to have the possible lists (vertical, horizontal & diagonal) in a map which could iterate the checking procedure? Just to make it more tidy instead of adding all possibilities (checking best move, checking best defence, checking if game finished etc) manually?

I still have a few things I want to improve. But all tips, tricks and ideas on improving or optimizing are welcome ofcoure. I would love to hear everybody's ideas on how to program this game

Hi Smartbuilder team

I can't get the drag and drop function working as I want it by resetting the position of the blocks. I've attached a small project to show it.

When you drag an object (example object 1) on the wrong drop, it will give you a 'wrong' message. When you then click 'Try again', the last dragged object resets to original position.
Problem:
When I now hover over the drop zone with another object (object 2), the first object automatically jumps to the drop object. Like it forgot he resetted its position or something and goes to the position it ended up before.

I does work correctly when I put the 'drag reset' option in the D&D object to incorrect, but I also need the 'off zone' function. Besides that, I want the reset to happen after you click continue and not immediatly when you dragged on the wrong drop zone.

Hover block function

Hi Smartbuilder Team,

I've come across a problem. I have a text object that I want to change text when it hovers over an object. For example when hovering over elements of a picture, to show what that piece is being called.

The problem is when you move fast with your mouse from one object to another, it doesn't register the rollout or rollover. My guess is that it is a time issue, that it was working on changing the text before it registered a new rollover.
My first try was with a object on the background that resets stuff, but that doesn't work. And also the rollout on all object isn't fixing it. You have to move pretty slow with your mouse to make it work as expected.

My guess is that a 'hover' function (besides the rollover/rollout function) will solve this, as that will keep giving the status when the mouse is on a hotspot/button, instead of the one time when the mouse rollover it. Just like the hover function for the colors of a button works perfect. But then as a programmable block, and preferable for hotspot and buttons
Or is there a better way to do this?

Attached a project file with the two attempts that don't work at this moment.

Hi,

The connection with Zapier works great. I thought it would need meta data or change the url, but the blocks you advised worked perfect! I'm really happy with this

The download function would be a nice addition. I'm now using the web element like you suggested which will work for now. But it can't directly download external files (pdf's on the clients side) as that will just open them within the web object and not download them. So I do need to download them first and put them in the assets folder, or use the asset tool, to make it work.

Hi

I think I am missing something, but I just can't find a way to download a file (pdf in this case). I saw in older forums that there was a 'open link' block, but my guess is that this was from the old SB version and now everything is in the link tab.
I need to download pdf's without opening them. So in html is just adding the 'download' tag, but I can't seem to find how it works in smartbuilder

And a second question is if you have an idea how to add any form of registering email addresses. Our lesson is not in an LMS, but at the end of the lesson we want people to enter their email address, and this then will go into a spreadsheet/send email to client so we can add follow up emails. If I remember correctly from previous conversations, there is no way to directly email (without using an external email client). I don't undertand xAPI yet, but can that export this data and put thing neat in a database? We also tried to use zapier, and although the connection was succesfull using a webhook, we were not able to transfer the variables. Do you have any experience or idea how we can transfer variables to zapier?

Any suggestion or idea is welcome

Hi all,

Just to learn more about smartbuilder functionality and programming, I am trying to build a tic-tac-toe game which 'in theory' the computer would never loose. I'm already pretty happy with the base I have so far of how the pieces move and the limited code is uses to get everything working, but am now starting with the computer 'intellegence' to see traps and make the best move. Besides that I think there is still some room for optimising the code, like a way to check the item's index in a list.

All input from everybody is welcome. As said before, it is just a learning project, so everybody who wants to join, help, share, read along or use it in a project is welcome to. Ideas on possibilities how to do this, code blocks or ways to optimise code are are appreciated and needed for this project to evolve further, and of course help us learn stuff.

I'm playing around with lists but I'm having some trouble getting data in quickly. I'm trying to find the quickest way to input the numbers 50 to 100. I've found a way to do this (image below), but I don't think it is the most effecient way .

Hi Smartbuilder,

I found out that autoplay does kinda work now, but (weird enough) only if you come from a page where you clicked on a button (object) to go to the next page (with video). If you clicked on a hotspot to go to the next page, the autoplay doesn't work.

So it has something to do with the difference between a hotspot and a button object. I've tested in multiple times, and it is consistent. Maybe this is something you guys can look into?

It might have something to do with the button state. On mobile, if you have a 'rollover' or 'rollout' block in it, you need to click twice on a button to fire it. The first one activates the rollover event, and only the second one the click. When you don't have a rollover block, then it works normal with 1 click.

Or this might be an unrelated issue, but would also be nice to be fixed as we now can't use any rollover events

Hi Navdeep,
Thanks for your tutorial. At the end it turned out we did get it to work, but apparently google analytics does not allow you to iframe projects. So it did all come in fine on our website with the lesson, but when we iframed our website with the lesson to put it on the clients website, it blocks all analytics.

But your video was very helpful. It made us find the problem. Besides that, we didn't know about the build in tools for event reporting, which is really cool!

Great new version!
I was wondering if you guys could take another look at the above problem. That when the lesson is smaller than the width of the lesson it already takes the mobile layout, while it is still horizontal.
We have tried multiple workarounds, but we actually ended up deleting all the phone layouts as it didn't work on a lot of laptops and other devices. Smaller laptops automatically zoom in on browser to make it more readable, so the screen becomes more than the width of the lesson. Besides that we iframe/lightbox our content often, and if the lesson is bigger than the iframe it pauzes or get the phone layout.

Could you please take another look at it. That it only takes the phone layout if 'window width < window height' and not smaller than lesson width.

Google analytics

Hi,

We are having trouble getting the Google analytics out of the lesson.

We've added the measurement ID to the lesson settings, hoping this would add the analytics link in the html file and send stuff to our google analtyics. Because it didn't add the analtyics automatically in the html file, we added the google analytics code to the html file after publshing. Our guess is this is needed to send the data.

So far we now only get the statistics from the .html file. We don't see anything from the measurement ID inside smartbuilder. And because of this we also can't add triggers to our buttons to see which choices the viewers made (my guess is that this is the reason to have google analytics within smartbuiler).

I understand google analytics is not your software, but do you have some documentation or tutorial how to get it set up in smartbuilder. And how we can track button clicks?

I would like to make a feature request to make these movements go a bit more smooth and easy. I use the 'move' blocks a lot, and would love to animate using rotation, scale and if possible even transparancy in the same way.

I've been using this for a lot of my elearnings now and I love that it is possible, but the way it works is a bit different than I expected. But maybe I'm doing something wrong

So most of my elearnings have a horizontal layout (1280x720) and vertical (Phone portrait 405x720). But I've noticed when the elearnings is seen on a screen which has a width smaller than 720, or when it is seen in a iframe smaller than 720, or you zoom in on your browsers till the widow is smaller than the original 720xzoom, it automatically goes to phone, eventhough it is a horizontal windows.
I think it does:
if 'window width' < lesson width --> show phone layout
While I actually want:
if 'window width' > 'window height' --> show horizontal (no matter what the lesson size, so horizontal screens are always horizontal and vertical screens always vertical)

I was curious why it works like this. I guess it has to do with the 'scale to width and height' setting in the lesson setting, but was wondering if there is a workaround (without making our horizontal lesson smaller or adding more dimensions) for it.

url parameters & smoothing

Hi smartbuilder team,

I had two small questions.
1. I want to get data out of the url. We need url's that import data so we can for example immediatly jump to slide 5 without any clicks (in our example for QR codes). I thought I could do this by getting the launch parameters and then have https://websitehere.com?&variablea=5&variableb=john or something, but I can't get smartbuilder to load the 'variablea' and make the '5' the value of that variable. I did watch the videos on how to import csv files, but could not find anything about url.

2. I came across this post about animation easing in the forum. I was wondering if there has been an update on this. As I saw that when you go to easing now, it changes the value into 'linear' (instead of a number like it used to do). So I have a feeling this might be updated? I tried 'bezier' or 'smooth' but that of course were random guesses .

accessing external libraries

Hi Smartbuilder,

We are trying to get some new javascript functionality in our lessons, but are having some trouble.

Our main thing is that we are trying to create and download a custumised pdf based upon the variables. For this our programmer is trying to add the external library pdf.js, but for some reason it keeps getting the error 'unable to find pdf.js'. This means it is able to read the the js file in the config folder, but can not load the external library. We've also tried adding code in the html file (manually after publishing), but it still doesn't work.

We are now trying to add the library in ourselves (the js.map file) but this doesn't work either. I know it's a bit of a vague questions, but I was hoping you guys recognise the issue or could maybe point us in the right direction.

A second thing is that we are trying to add a 'fullscreen' button in our lesson. We are already able to let the browser go fullscreen, but the lesson doesn't scale up, so it just ends up the same size in the top left corner, with then the rest of the screen in the color of 'stage background'. I hope we are just targeting the wrong div, but maybe you guys also have an idea on this topic.

Vimeo not working on iPhone

Hi,

We are working a lot with video in our lessons, most of which are not in an LMS but just on a website. The vimeo tool works perfect on pc, laptop and android, but this week we learned it doesn't work on iphone (I tested with safari). I read somewhere online that IOS doesn't allow <autoplay> so I tried to force play after a second. But saw that the play and pause action blocks for the vimeo tool don't work (again, on iPhone IOS, they work perfect on everything else). Do you think you can take a look at this for a fix, or is this something that has to do with IOS and you can't change anything about it?

I also tested it with the youtube object, and those play/pause blocks also don't work on iphone. The normal player does work, even with vimeo direct video links, but then we miss the nice features of vimeo like bandwith resolution upscaling, subtitles etc. We will try to use this as a temporarily solution, but is it possible to add more than 1 subtitle (so multiple languages) to a video?
